What to do in the event of a tick bite: A guide to action and testing

Tick bites can be worrisome, especially because of the risk of tick-borne diseases such as Lyme disease. But what should you do if you are bitten? And what tests are available to detect possible infections? Let's answer these questions and offer a roadmap for action and testing after a tick bite.

Step 1: Remove the tick

If you notice a tick on your skin, it is important to remove it as soon as possible. To do this, use pointed tweezers and grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible. Slowly and gently pull the tick straight up, without twisting. Be careful not to pinch or crush the tick, as this can increase the risk of transmitting pathogens.

Step 2: Save the tick for testing

If you still have the tick, keep it in a sealed bag or jar. This may come in handy if you later decide to have the tick tested for pathogens such as those of Lyme disease.

Step 3: Consider a tick bite test

If you are concerned about possible infection from the tick bite, consider having the tick tested for pathogens. At Blood Value Test, we offer a special PCR test for ticks, including typing for the Borrelia bacteria, the causative agent of Lyme disease. This test can help you quickly find out if the tick is carrying the bacteria.

Step 4: Follow-up testing if needed

If the tick tests positive for Borrelia or if you develop symptoms similar to Lyme disease after a tick bite, further investigation is necessary. Bloodvaluetest.com offers several test options for detecting Lyme disease:

Whether you've had a tick bite or are developing symptoms that may indicate Lyme disease, Blood Value Test offers a range of tests to detect possible infections and get a clear picture of your health. Don't take chances with tick bites, take action and see your doctor. Get tested for peace of mind.
