Which test can I use to find out if I am menopausal?

Question from Annette: Can you tell me which test(s) are best to see if I am still fertile and if I am not already in menopause.

A: To roughly predict when you will enter menopause, this test is best suited:

you can also add this test:

In women who have stopped menstruating for an extended period of time, it is sufficient to examine the values of the hormones FSH, LH, estradiol and progesterone once.

In women who still menstruate a few times a year, the values of hormones around menstruation will be normal and blood tests will be needed more often than once.

The doctor may also request tests to examine antibodies to the thyroid and adrenal glands and to determine if defenses to the thyroid and/or adrenal glands are present.
