Corona, but no antibodies?

For some weeks now we have been testing people very sporadically who have been told by their doctor that they have definitely had corona.

When we test these people for IgG antibodies to SARS-CoV-2, they appear not to have produced antibodies after all.

What could be going on here?

  1. Are there already people who have been sick at the end of March 2020 and whose antibodies are now already gone, did they get tested too late?
  2. Are there people who don't make antibodies?
  3. Are antibodies other than SARS-Cov-2 produced in COVID-19 that we cannot measure?
  4. Is there another very nasty lung disease that has all the symptoms of COVID-19?
  5. Are there people who can subdue corona with T-helper cells and CD8 CD4 cells and not even need antibodies to defeat the virus?

In this case, it always concerns people with serious symptoms, but not bad enough to be admitted to hospital. For this reason, these people were not tested with PCR and the virus was never officially confirmed. Especially for these people with residual symptoms, it is very annoying not to be able to officially determine that they have had Corona.

It seems that people without antibodies continue to suffer from residual symptoms for longer.

CALD

There is still much uncertainty about future complaints of people who have had the COVID-19 virus, about the course of the disease and possible complications. For this reason, it is of great importance that solutions are developed now for this future group of patients. The Lung Fund calls on people who now or in the future have complaints after recovery from the coronavirus to contact us. This can be done through the form onwww.coronalongplein.nl or by calling 033-4341212.

We would like to hear your story so we can learn more about this mysterious disease. Also tips about studies on this phenomenon are welcome so we can study them.

My 13 yr old daughter has been very sick for the whole month of February 2020, all symptoms corona she has had. She has lost 9 kg in 2 months and until today (01-01-2021) she is still very tired. I myself have been very short of breath in that period and it felt like I had burning lungs. At that time there was no testing possible, so I had my daughter tested for Pfeiffer instead of corona. This did not come out. Last week we received the results of a blood test (for antibodies to corona). But her blood was good. Yet it still does not feel good.

Recognizable story. My husband of 69 years also had a weird, atypically severe flu for weeks in February 2020, with huge dry cough, fever, shortness of breath and overwhelming fatigue. I had never seen it like that before. Myself in early March: dry coughing, waking up from nighttime shortness of breath and completely out of breath from a short walk. While my condition is fine. But otherwise mildly ill. My blood test did not show any antibodies either (far below the signal value). But I still have the feeling that we did not have an 'ordinary' flu.

It's also possible that the rapid test was a false positive. Where did you get it? What brand?

It's possible the rapid test was a false positive. Where, what brand did you buy this from, Wester?

I myself have been in contact with a positively tested person. The contact was on 23/04/2021. The person tested positive on 24/04. So I had to have a PCR test done because of my work. This was negative on 24/04. On Wednesday 28/04 I did get symptoms myself, did a self-test and immediately signed positive. I called my family doctor who gave me a PCR test: strongly positive and very contagious. I remained in quarantine but never avoided contact with my husband (they slept together). I have been very ill for a few days: fever (always around 38 degrees), sore throat, blocked nose, eye problems, listless and very tired.... A heavy 'flu'. I have hardly been out of bed for 5 days. My husband and son never got sick despite my highly contagious state. About a month later I had a blood test for Ig M and Ig G. The test was positive for Ig G. What I find strange is the way I was infected: I was in the same room as the infected person (in that person's living room), both wearing masks, me wearing a medical mask and at a distance from each other (at least 1.5 m). So how did this happen ? Is the contamination greatest via a room that is not ventilated, where the infected person was already staying the whole time ? Is there any sense in the masks and the distance ....
